Last Tuesday the PE Department took a Year 8 Football team to take part in a 9-a-side tournament at The Den.

The team was Ayo, Ishmail, Daniel, Matthew, Marcus, Mamadu, Sean, Brian and Tung along with 2 Year 7s Sifer and Gabriel.  There were 8 teams in the tournament which was organised into 2 leagues.  In our league we played against Westminster City, Harris Academy Peckham and The Globe Academy.

The other league consisted of Deptford Green, forest Hill, Conisborough College and St Thomas the Apostle.  The games were tough but we managed to finish 2nd in our league placing us in a quarter final against Conisborough College.  The game ended as 0-0 so went to penalties.

Fortunately we won 2-1 so went into the semi final.  We lost to St Thomas the Apostle in this match but then played Harris Academy Peckham for the 3rd place play offs winning this on penalties as well.  This match was so close it went to sudden death on the penalty shoot out.  We finished 3rd overall which was a fantastic result.

There were some excellent performances during the morning most notably from Ayo and Mamadu and the Year 7 players Gabriel who scored a total of 3 goals, one of which was from a header which is very hard in this type of game and Sifer who performed some outstanding saves.

The players of the tournament were Ayo and Mamadu who played consistently well throughout.  They will receive a special t-shirt each.
